Smart is a relatively young car manufacturer, founded in Switzerland by Nicolas Hayek. As the CEO of Swatch, Hayek believed there was a gap in the market for a small and stylish city car. Teaming up with German car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, the Smart car was born with the first model released in 1998.
