The Vauxhall Insignia comes in 3 different varieties. The Grand Sport is labelled as the hatchback, but has proportions more usual to a saloon. The Sports Tourer is an estate with a coupe like look and the Country Tourer has a front wheel drive or four wheel drive option with greater ground clearance for more rugged terrain.

Exterior and Interior Features of the Vauxhall Insignia

The new look Insignia has a sleek low profile. New IntelliLux headlights offer illumination for up to 400 metres ahead and will react when you turn the wheel to shine a light further round the bend to improve visibility. The array of 32 LED beams can also automatically adjust to make sure oncoming drivers are not dazzled. The usual colour choices are available, but for those who would like something extra special there is the opportunity to create your own colour in the Vauxhall Exclusive centre.

On the inside comfort is paramount, with a choice of fabric or leather seats. Depending on your choice of trim level seats can be adjusted up to 18 different ways and can be ventilated or have a massage feature. The Insignia's seats are also approved by the AGR, who are a group of health professionals and experts in back health, so your journey should be pain free.

Safety Features and Driver Aids

There is a long list of driver aids to be found on the Vauxhall Insignia which all contribute towards the 5* safety rating awarded by NCAP;

• Automatic Cruise Control will control both the accelerator and brake for you when needed to keep the car at a steady speed.
• Head-Up-Display puts all the important information the driver needs such as sat nav instructions and speed on the windscreen so it can be easily viewed.
• Lane Departure ensures you never drift out of your lane, by an audible warning and a nudge of the steering wheel should this behaviour be detected.
• Traffic sign recognition makes sure you never miss any vital information.
• Forward Collision Alert will step in if you are in danger of an accident.
• Automatic Emergency Braking helps you stop quickly to avoid a collision.
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert helps when reversing out of a space to ensure there are no other vehicles or pedestrians in your line of travel.
• Blind spot warning will let you know if there is a car where you can't see it.

Connectivity and Technology

Vauxhall's concierge service OnStar will be available in the Insignia. There is a free 12 month trial, then you will be expected to pay if you wish to continue with the service. OnStar provides an agent to speak to at the touch of a button. Agents can perform a range of services for you including finding destinations, booking hotels, finding a car park, getting help in an emergency, and even advising you on vehicle heath should a warning light appear. In the event of a theft your Insignia can be tracked, and GPS location relayed to the police and once the car has been switched off the ignition can be disabled to prevent any further travel.

The OnStar app allows you to check on your car from your smartphone. Gaining information such as tyre pressure, fuel and oil levels and location of your Insignia. The app also gives the ability to lock and unlock doors as well as send directions to the sat nav from your phone.

The Insignia also acts as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for fast internet connection wherever you are and voice activated sat nav and phone controls. You can opt to have a wireless charging slot and state of the art BOSE sound system. Smartphones can be linked easily using Vauxhall's IntelliLink Infotainment system which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Engines Available

There is a choice of 3 petrol engines. A 1.5 140PS Turbo ecoTEC engine or 1.5 165PS Turbo which are both available as a manual only. The automatic petrol option is the 2.0 260PS Turbo 4x4 engine which is also the fastest of the range with a top speed of 155mph and a 0-60mph time of only 6.9 seconds.

There are 3 diesel engines. The 1.6 110PS Turbo D ecoTEC is the most frugal of all the engines with a huge 70.6mpg(combined) claimed and low Co2 emissions of 105g/km, this choice is only available as a manual engine. The 1.6 136PS Turbo has a manual or automatic version and the most powerful diesel engine is the 2.0 170PS Turbo D BlueInjection which can reach a top speed of 139 mph and has a 0-60mph time of 8.4 seconds.

Insignia Trim Levels Available

There are no less than 8 trim levels to choose from on the Insignia. Even the entry level Design comes with a high standard of safety equipment. On every Insignia you will get Driving Assistance Pack 1, which features systems that operate using the front camera including; traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, forward collision alert and automatic emergency braking.
