Mustang Mach-E: Ford's First Fully Electric SUV
There is little doubt that the rise of electric cars is only continuing to gain momentum as consumers and governments alike push forward for a greener future. Designed to offer a more eco-friendly solution for drivers, the electric vehicle market has seen a growing list of newcomers welcomed to the ranks over the last few years.
One of the newest additions to the EV market is the Mustang Mach-E, Ford’s first all-electric SUV. Designed for the modern, environmentally savvy driver, the Mustang Mach-E offers a beautiful driving experience without the CO2 emissions. A true game-changer for this iconic household name badge, the all-electric Mustang Mach-E from Ford gives the sense of considered vehicle, offering all the practicalities a family needs with an essence of style thrown in for good measure.
One of 2021’s most important new releases, the Ford Mustang Mach-E uses one of the brand’s top-tier nameplates, setting high expectations about what we can expect from this ultra-impressive fully electric SUV. In a competitive SUV market that sets the bar exceedingly high, breaking in with an all-electric model, the first from Ford, the manufacturer took a risk, and pleasantly, it has paid off.

Pinned against rivals including the Tesla Model 3, Skoda Enyaq and Kia EV6, the styling, driving experience and performance of the Mustang Mach-E make it a worthy component in a jostling electric SUV space. Despite shedding its V8 heritage, this looks every part the Mustang name it carries. However, to expect the feel of a traditional V8 behind the wheel would be doing this car a disservice. Instead, drivers should appreciate the combination of elegant styling, performance and plenty of practicality to appreciate this all-electric vehicle for what it truly has to offer.

What can you expect from the Mustang Mach-E?
Built on an entirely new platform, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E comes with plenty of the styling cues we’ve come to know and love from the Mustang brand. Light signatures and a thrusting bonnet are all prompts that have become synonymous with one of the world’s leading sports car names. However, under the hood, things certainly look very different.
Performance
Like most electric vehicles on the market today, specs that meet varying driver needs are giving consumers a choice from entry-level to premium within a single corner of the industry, providing a competitive advantage for Ford. Offering both a standard battery and extended battery at 68kWh and 88kWh respectively, consumers can opt to invest in specs supporting faster charging and longer distances on a single charge, reaching up to 380 miles at its maximum.
When it comes to performance, 5.1 seconds offers 0-62mph thrills for drivers who are keen to make an impact. But to really tap into the power of the Mustang Mach-E, the GT model can hit 0-62mph in a mere 3.7 seconds. It comes down to a choice between price, range and performance for the new fully electric Ford SUV.

Design
It’s not only battery power that gets us excited about the first fully electric car from Ford. The Mustang Mach-E’s practicality earns it a boost in the family market department, offering enough space for five adults to fit comfortably owing to the flat floor in the second row and generous headroom allowances.
Ditching a petrol-powered engine has created space for a second boot up front, with plenty of space by way of cubbies and nooks throughout the interior to suit the practicality needs of today’s families. While the main boot in the rear is smaller than some of the Mustang Mach-E’s competitors at 402 litres, there is more than enough space for the whole family.
Featuring an outwardly sloping tailgate and a long bonnet, there’s a lot of effortless styling taking place on the outside. A silhouette that is very much at the height of its popularity, the SUV carries a beautifully sculpted design that says ‘modern, yet practical’.
There’s a fine balance that’s being mastered between the sleek styling of the Mach-E while maintaining maximum Mustang essence. Pitched as a family-friendly EV, there’s a focus on practical finishings that still exude a sense of cool. It’s the sort of car you wouldn’t mind being seen navigating solo in, but equally fits the whole family and all the kit when you need it to.

How does it compare?
Capable of standing up against some of the best in the market, the Mustang Mach-E is a superb delivery for Ford’s first all-electric vehicle. Comparatively, the price point for the entry-level model comes in similarly to Tesla’s Model 3, but is quickly priced out by Ford’s own plug-in hybrid Kuga.
If practicality and styling are top priorities for an eco-conscious driver, the Mustang Mach-E is an excellent choice for those looking at the higher end of the electric SUV market. However, with the UK ending sales of petrol and diesel-based cars by 2030, jumping ship now to enter the EV market has never made more sense.
